Wondrous Words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Kathy of Bermudaonion where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading.  If you want to play along, grab the button, write a post and add your link to Mr. Linky on Kathy's blog!

This week the new words I encountered were from The Art of Forgetting by Camille Noe Pagan. I used Urban Dictionary online for the definitions.

1. verklempt

Before I can get too verklempt, the Volvo pulls into the Bergman's gravel driveway. (p.208)

Verklempt: choked with emotion. Also spelled verklemmt. I would never have guessed this one.

2. verboten

She embraces me, and then says, "Marissa, I should warn you: That word is completely verboten in this house." (p. 209)

Verboten: excluded from use or mention. Derived from the German word meaning forbidden. I had an inkling about this one but looked it up anyway to be certain.

What new words have you encountered in your reading this week? Do share!

It's funny that both of your words started with ver. I've heard both words, but I couldn't define them. I'm going to try to remember them now!

What a fun idea, the first word I had not heard of but have used the second one in the past myself!
